There wasn’t a dry eye in the house yesterday afternoon during our monthly Sailors’ Scuttlebutt talk, as more than fifty club members and guests sat spellbound listening to Esther Jordan’s harrowing account of her ordeal surviving a dismasting and a man missing overboard during a bitter storm en route to Bermuda.
In Esther’s own words: “the screaming wind was terrifying, I’ll never forget the sound of that wind. There was no moon, there was no stars, it was just pitch black”.
What would you do if your yacht was dismasted at 2am while you were resting below and when you finally made it to deck, there was a gaping hole and your husband was gone?
