Sailors’ Scuttlebutt 02 June 2025

SAILORS’ SCUTTLEBUTT – MONDAY, 02 JUNE 2025, 17:00

AN EVENT YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO MISS!!

In the early 1980s, Esther Donald Clark-Jordan and her husband, David, together with two friends, embarked on a voyage aboard Bluejacket, a 55-foot ketch, sailing toward Bermuda.

Their journey took a harrowing turn at approximately 02:00 in the morning when an unexpected and severe storm struck.

The darkness compounded the peril as turbulent seas battered the vessel, ultimately leaving Bluejacket dismasted and Esther’s husband, who was at the helm, swept overboard, presumed perished at sea.

When Esther and the remaining crew finally managed to get on deck, there was only a gaping hole where the cockpit used to be – and David was gone.

To discover how Esther overcame such overwhelming challenges and to learn about the eventual happy ending to this ordeal, members and their guests are invited to attend the next Sailor’s Scuttlebutt event on 02 June 2025, at 17:00pm, as usual.

Snacks and refreshments will be on sale at the bar, mini pies, chips and some of Ed’s famous gravy available from the kitchen @ R40 per serving!

You don’t want to miss this one – it is one heck of a ride, told like only Esther can!
