There is something special in the air whenever POYC members come together for a dinner celebration. These gatherings are not merely about sharing a meal: they encapsulate an experience enriched by good food, enticing aromas, engaging conversation, warm friendships, vibrant music, uplifting laughter, stunning décor, and an abundance of enjoyment.
Saturday’s AGM Winter Wonderland Shades of White Dinner Dance exemplified this perfectly. It was a night where meticulous planning and collective effort culminated in an event that was both visually spectacular and socially fulfilling.
The preparations for this elegant evening began earlier in the week when our new Rear Commodore (Social), Nicole Marchant, whose creativity is well known already, along with her dedicated team, initiated the installation of larger decorations.

Following the AGM meeting itself, a whole team of helpers came together to swiftly transform the clubhouse from rows of chairs, PowerPoint presentations, ballot papers, and microphones into an enchanting winter wonderland. Under Nicole’s authoritative yet inspiring leadership, what could have been a rushed redecorating job instead became a magical transformation characterized by pristine whites and shimmering lights.
Upon entering the venue on Saturday evening, members were immediately immersed in an ambiance far removed from earlier daytime proceedings. The sight of delicate lights twinkling alongside candles and snowflakes combined with chiffon and polished silverware created an environment that was beautiful, magical, and exciting. The reception included being greeted at the door with glasses of sherry – a thoughtful touch that set a convivial tone for what was to follow.

The culinary aspect of the evening further elevated the overall experience. A collaborative effort among Dariol, Santie & Marius, Nicole, and Joan resulted in a three-course meal that delighted attendees’ palates with its complexity and harmony of flavours. This feast was unanimously praised as once again raising the bar for future POYC dinners.

As dessert concluded and the older folk licked the last dribbles of lemon roulade from their lips, the kids energized the room with their enthusiasm on the dancefloor.
DJ Eddie skilfully curated tracks tailored to POYC members’ tastes throughout the night, ensuring continuous entertainment until well into morning.

Such successful events are never possible without extensive teamwork behind the scenes.
Gratitude is due to everyone who assisted in decorating efforts before and after dinner; those responsible for preparing food; individuals managing cleanup duties; members who thoughtfully selected white attire; Brett, who ensured smooth bar service; kitchen helpers tirelessly washing dishes throughout; as well as DJ Eddie’s musical expertise, contributing vibrancy to festivities.
But above all else, thank you to our POYC members who keep showing up no matter what challenge is thrown at you. Everyone who worked hard at getting this event ready was so impressed and thankful to each of you for going the extra mile in finding your best whites!
We even had an admiral in full dress whites – well done Andrew and Stephanie!
