On 31 December 2024, members of the POYC enjoyed a fantastic New Year’s Eve Mexican celebration with the skippers and crew of the West Coast Cruise vessels all moored in the Port Owen yacht marina.
And was it one super Fiesta to remember!
Club Committee member Nicole lead a team of club members to put on one of the best shows the club has seen. And we mustn’t forget that Nicole had partaken in the West Coast Cruise and had to come off the yacht, find her footing on dry land, and get on a ladder to decorate the clubhouse in a million different colours!

It was multicoloured bunting, cut-out cacti, sweety filled pinatas, rainbow sombreros, bright sarapes, and even a real acoustic guitar under a Mexican flag against a cardboard cactus.
In keeping with the theme, guests received a welcome Tequila at the door, with lemons and salt and everything!
While the DJ got the crowd on their feet and dancing early on, the kitchen team under the skillful leadership of Rear Commodore: Social, Marius, cooked up a storm. But not even being elbow deep in salsa could dampen the spirit!

As part of the night’s festivities, the club Commodore announced the different prize winners for the West Coast Cruise 2024 under loud cheer and laughter.
Considering that the skippers and crew had been on the water for a week or so prior to the Fiesta, we were particularly impressed by the innovative and fun costumes donned by all!
But all was not done yet: the pinatas had to be opened by baton strike as the clock struck midnight!
While some members kept enjoying the lively music and others dished out hugs and new year’s wishes, a few brave ones offered to be blindfolded for a chance at smacking the pinatas, sending sweets flying across the room!

One thing is certain: the POYC organising team had outdone themselves as this was one party to remember!
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this together and those who spent the night on their feet serving meals and drinks and collecting plates. You know who you are and you are the rocks of the POYC! Well done!
Here’s to a magnificent 2025! May the seas lie smooth before you and the waves swell your spirits.
