Arrr! Shiver me timbers! It’s a Port Owen Pirate invasion!
All hands on deck for the Port Owen Yacht Club 2025 Opening Cruise taking place on Saturday, 20 September 2025!
It’s a dress up or walk the plank affair and all of Velddrif is invited to join the scurvy. Bring your camera and come watch the marina and river turn into a pirate’s party!
Club members are commanded by ye captain and quartermaster to dress up in your best pirate costume and make sure your vessel is similarly decked out for the loot. Prizes for best dressed male and female buccaneers, and best decked out vessel up for grabs.
Sailing yachts, kayaks, canoes, motorboats, dingies and jet-skis are to line up for inspection and a POYC Pirate Armada sail past to offer the Club Commodore a hook-handed salute at Rooibaai, whereafter one might find a few Jolly Rogers sailing out the harbour mouth and into the Bay for some fun.
With that many pirates in town, one should not be surprised by a bit of friendly water-canon fire among vessels and crew…
But what is a day of festivities without a club dinner the way only our fellow members can host? Menu details will follow in due course, but for now, make sure you have your calendars clearly marked for a day of fun, laughter and community spirit.
