What a privilege to be part of a community of such fun-loving, friendly sailors!
This past Saturday, 18 January 2025, the POYC sailors took to the water for a day sail across the St Helena bay out to Stompneus Bay where they dropped anchor and enjoyed a lovely lunch together before going out again to enjoy some really good wind and perfect sailing conditions around the Bay and back to Port Owen again.

With high tides for the day ( a requirement for leaving and entering the Port Owen canals) being at 06:00am and again at 18:00pm, the occasion offered a perfect opportunity to allow less experienced club members, friends, and family the opportunity to experience the thrill of sailing without having to leave the calm waters of the Bay and returning before nightfall.

Whilst a few crew quickly arranged transport to the beach for a walk and even a meetup with the family doggo, others braved the balancing act of getting in and out of a kayak from the yacht and took the opportunity to marvel at the local wildlife among the boulders.

But whatever they got up to, from tanning on deck to taking a nap down below, everyone had themselves a super time among friends.

A few boats even decided to stay overnight and arranged an evening beach bash complete with braai and a blow-up tender for a wind-break. By Sunday morning sunrise, several boats were already entering the Laaiplek harbour again, on their way back to their respective berths around the Port Owen marina and canals.
The fleet certainly wasn’t short of great photographers and submitted a few stunning shots!
We are glad to share a few with you.

Well done everyone and thank you to all the organisers who did a cracking job at getting us all together for a super fun weekend out! A special word of thanks to all the skippers who made their yachts available for a few inexperienced guests who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Till next time, happy sailing!
