Port Owen River Race 2025 -what a race it was!
On 25 – 26 January 2025 the Western Cape sailing community gathered on the banks of the Berg River for the 2025 edition of the Port Owen River Race. And what a great race it was!

Over the weekend of the 17th, 18th, and 19th of January 2025, Blokkies and Ian Mackintosh took SV Footloose (an L34 sailing yacht) down to Saldanha Bay with the intention of sailing back to Laaiplek / Port Owen with four of the POYC supported Cadets from the Saldanha Sailing Academy.
This past Saturday, 18 January 2025, the POYC sailors took to the water for a day sail across the St Helena bay out to Stompneus Bay where they dropped anchor and enjoyed a lovely lunch together before going out again to enjoy some really good wind and perfect sailing conditions around the Bay and back to Port Owen again.
On 31 December 2024, members of the POYC enjoyed a fantastic New Year’s Eve Mexican celebration with the skippers and crew of the West Coast Cruise vessels all moored in the Port Owen yacht marina.

Held over the weekend of 25 – 26 January 2025 on the magnificent Berg River, snaking through Port Owen, Velddrif, and Laaiplek, the ever-popular Port Owen River Race promises to be a spectacular event for competitors and spectators alike!
Port Owen Yacht Club will be hosting The Diamond Coast Yacht Race between Port Owen and Lüderitz, Namibia starting on the 21st of March 2024.
