Port Owen Angling Club
Port Owen Angling Club (POAC) is a new subsection of the Port Owen Yacht Club (POYC) and is open to any member of POYC, male, female and juniors.
The club aim is to broaden the angling knowledge of any interested anglers, create camaraderie amongst anglers whilst having due regard for the environment and ecology of fish species.
The Club holds a monthly friendly angling competition known as the “Monthly Mug,” this is fished normally on a Saturday, dates are set in advance for the year, the upcoming competition days being 22nd April and the 7th May 2017. Prize giving and a braai follow the day at the POYC.
Clinics to improve the knowledge and skill of anglers are often held at the POYC at 1730h the Wednesday evening prior to the Saturday Monthly Mug date.

Saturday 10 March 2018 – Port Owen Angling Club Monthly Mug. After the weigh-in between 3.00 and 4.00 p.m. followed by a short prize-giving, there is a bring ‘n braai and you are most welcome to join in.

Monthly report for January 2018
The Monthly Mug was held on Saturday 13th January 2018 and was fished in the estuary.
- 5 boats and 10 anglers took part.
- 1st place went to Patrick Knobel with 2 Shad weighing 2.22 and 2.1kg.
- Another big fish was hooked but lost, presumed to be a big Kob.
- The after braai was very well attended.
February 2018 Report
The Monthly Mug was held on Saturday 17th February 2018 and was fished in the estuary. 5 boats and 11 anglers took part.
The only fish brought to the scales was a small Barbel weighing 420 grams caught by Patrick Knobel.
3 Blue Skates were caught and released. Estimated weights were 3kg/4kg and 6kg.
The Monthly Mug rules have also been amended to include fish released (providing photos taken and submitted.) The minimum weight, brought to the scales, has also been changed to 1kg.
Once again the after braai was very well attended and enjoyed.
The M/Mug sponsorship from Blue Ocean Mussels has been renewed and increased.
