Port Owen, in common with other marinas, faces the challenge of siltation. The waterways are managed by the Port Owen Marina Authority (POMA): the directors represent the municipality, the yacht club, and various bodies of waterway users.
Dredging can only take place according to the various environmental regulations.
The siltation at the moment restricts the movement of keelboats at low tide. However, POMA has a dredging plan in place: dredging will start as soon as the winter rains start.
